Leesa Mattress Review 2021

leesa mattress

We all know how sleep is important for our health and having a comfortable mattress is one of the first things you should consider to achieve restful sleep. No matter if you are a brand new memory foam purchaser or you are in the market to replace your existing mattress, it’s always a good idea to do a little research before buying. Reading reviews from real customers is a good way to find out about the product, about their own personal experiences, and about after-sale customer support.

Leesa offers an affordable memory foam mattress and now also a hybrid version that combines both memory foam and traditional coil mattress construction. Let’s take a look at what clients are saying about both models and you can see for yourself if a Leesa mattress is a good option for you.

About Leesa

Leesa is an American company that produces American-made mattresses. They are one of the pioneers in memory foam mattresses and have grown to be one of the main ecommerce  competitors in the category.

They started with their signature all foam memory mattress and have recently introduced an innovative hybrid version of their memory foam mattress adding coils for more support. West Elm holds Leesa mattresses exclusively.

They take pride in their social commitments and donate one mattress for every 10 sold. To date, they have donated 35,000 mattresses to 1000 non-profits.

Leesa Signature Memory Foam Mattress

The Leesa Signature memory mixed foam mattress is an affordable mattress that is delivered in a box and that fits on any flatbed platform. They come in all regular mattress sizes starting as low as $395.

The Leesa Signature Memory mattress features two comfort layers of multi-foam. The top layer is a 2” cooling polyfoam and the layer under that is a 2” contouring memory foam, while the support base is made of a 6” high-density polyfoam. The cover is made of a polyester and Lycra blend for maximum breathability. The Leesa is a medium-firm mattress and it measures 10″ thick total.

The top polyfoam layer is a good pressure point reliever and it helps the sleeper to not sink directly into the memory foam. The mattress has also great motion isolation if you sleep with a partner. As with all memory foam mattresses, there is zero noise that comes out of this bed.

Who it’s for:

  • People who weigh between 130lbs to 230 lbs.
  • Shoppers looking for an inexpensive mattress.
  • Back and side sleepers.
  • Prone to back pain.
  • Enjoy medium firmness.

Who it’s not for:

  • People who weigh more than 250lbs.
  • Stomach sleepers
  • Those who prefer traditional mattresses.
  • Those who prefer soft mattresses.
  • Those who prefer firm mattresses.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress

After the success of the signature memory foam mattress and carefully listening to consumer demands, Leesa introduced a hybrid mattress that combines both the comfort of memory foam and the support and bounce of coils.

The Leesa Hybrid mattress is a great option if memory foam mattresses are not your thing. With the Hybrid model, you get the support of coils like in the traditional mattresses plus the layers of polyfoam on top.

The Hybrid model is more expensive than the memory foam mattress but it’s still more affordable than most traditional mattresses.

The Leesa Hybrid mattress is constructed with three layers of foam. The top layer is a 1.5” cooling polyfoam, the next layer is a 1.5” contouring memory foam, then a 1” support foam, plus the 6” layer of pocketed coils reinforced with a base layer of high-density polyfoam.

The pocketed coils provide great motion isolation and added bounce that you don’t get in the all-foam mattresses. The Leesa Hybrid is medium-firm and has a total thickness of 11″. The cover is made of a polyester and Lycra blend for maximum breathability.

Heavier sleepers can be comfortable on this bed being that the coils provide extra support. The coils offer more bounce and provide better edge support than the signature memory mattress.

Who it’s for:

  • People over 200lbs.
  • Back, side, and stomach sleepers.
  • Have a bigger budget.
  • Enjoy medium-firm mattresses.

Who it’s not for:

  • Those looking for a mattress under $1000.
  • Those who prefer soft mattresses.
  • Those who prefer firm mattresses.

Leessa Mattress Review - What Customers Are Saying

We’ve scoured the feedback from clients who bought a Leesa mattress and compiled a list of the most common issues that arise in the comments. They hold a 4.5-star rating on the Leesa website with over 23,000 ratings.

“We love our new mattress! Very comfortable! Leesa has had the best customer service as well. They are so quick to respond to any questions or updates about shipments. Thank you!”

“My new mattress is perfect. Firm and sturdy...comfy and cozy, I am finally getting a good night's sleep.”

Negative Review From Customers Over 200 lbs:

“I started hurting after an hour on the bed. It has no support for fat people. I'm 5 feet tall and weigh almost 250 pounds. I would not recommend this if you have a similar build to me.”

“After less than 3 years, with no one over 200 lbs on it, there is a huge indentation on one side. Hoping that the 10-year limited warranty comes through :/”

Over on Amazon, they have a 4-star rating with over 61% giving them a 5-star rating.

“No more lower back pain since purchasing this mattress. It conforms to your shape and is cooler than my old Tempurpedic mattress. I didn't find it too firm or too soft. It is just right!”

“This mattress is super comfortable. My wife and I are both side sleepers and it took a day or two to adjust to the new feel. Now we love it!”

“Had the mattress for 8 months now.. been great since I bought it however it's starting to lose its comfort slowly.”

“I love the way this mattress looks and feels, the packaging is also so easy to unwrap and set up. I don't have any back or neck pain anymore and I think this mattress stays really cool, while I'm a hot sleeper. However, it still smells like chemicals!”

Of course, mattress firmness preference is quite personal and the same amount of people who mention that the Leesa mattresses are too firm is the same amount that complains that they are too soft. But other issues and good experiences regularly come up in the comments.

The positive things that get mentioned a lot are:

  • On-time delivery.
  • Great customer support.
  • Comfortable.
  • Inexpensive.

The negative comments seem to navigate around:

  • The mattress sinks over time.
  • Sleeps hot.
  • Very little edge support on the all-foam mattress.
  • A strong smell at first.

Is a Leesa Mattress Right for You?

The two models of Leesa mattresses are both medium-firm mattresses and if you prefer soft or firm beds, this will not be a good match for you.

A Leesa mattress is an excellent choice if you are looking for an inexpensive bed, made in the USA,  with good quality materials and recommendable customer service.

We like the affordability of the Leesa mattresses, especially the signature memory foam model. This is obviously not a mattress that will last you 20 years. They offer great price points for good quality mattresses but need to be replaced much quicker than the traditional mattresses.

We also like the charity work that they do as a company by offering free beds to non-profits.

Leesa mattresses get pretty positive feedback from customers and reviewers alike. The company encourages new buyers to try the bed for at least 30 days before making a decision. There will be an adjustment period, especially If you are switching from a traditional mattress to a memory foam mattress. Let your body adjust to the new sleeping surface for at least a month.

We think that a Leesa mattress is a good option if you’re in the market for a new memory foam mattress or a hybrid traditional/memory foam mattress at a reasonable price.
